Reflecting Back: My Conversation with Hank on Think Tank

Looking back, I recently came across an old interview I did with Hank on his Think Tank show, from when I was running for Congress in Texas District 2 during my first campaign. It was a bit of a trip down memory lane, and it got me thinking about the things I was passionate about then, and how they still resonate with me today.

I remember clearly how much I emphasized the future, especially for our children. The national debt was, and still is, a huge concern for me. I wanted to make sure we were leaving a better world for the next generation, and that’s a sentiment that hasn’t changed [01:50].

Sharing my personal story about coming from Uganda was important to me. I wanted people to understand my journey, to see the path I took to become an American citizen. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. I wanted to highlight the importance of the vetting process, to show that our system, when followed correctly, is designed to protect us [06:26], [17:12].

Of course, we discussed the issues of the day: national security, border security, election integrity. I spoke from the heart, expressing my concerns about the direction our country was heading. Those were, and remain, critical issues. Looking back, it's interesting to see how the political landscape has shifted, but the core concerns remain. [21:40], [24:44].

I also remember advocating for term limits for members of Congress. I still believe that’s a crucial step towards preventing the entrenchment of power and ensuring fresh perspectives in government [33:39].

Watching that old interview was a reminder of why I chose to run in the first place. It was about serving my community, about making a difference. While that particular campaign has passed, those values remain a core part of who I am. It’s always good to reflect on where we’ve been, to see how far we’ve come, and to remind ourselves of the things that truly matter.
